Tri-Coloured Idlis

Yesterday marked 69 years of Independent India and the nation was filled with celebrations and revived sense of patriotism. It’s one of those days where tri-colored food is a hit among the people and I felt like making my contribution on this important day. Here is my simple “Tri-colored Idli” dish.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time : 20 minutes
Served: Hot

  Ingredients:
 
 500g Idli batter
 ½ cup Tomato Chutney
 ½ cup Coriander Chutney
 Salt (to Taste)

For Tomato Chutney

  • In a dry pan, roast the tomato until charred (3 to 4 minutes), peel it and keep it aside. In a blender, mix together, the peeled tomato, garlic (2 petals), lemon juice (1 tablespoon) and salt to form a red color paste.

For Coriander Chutney

  • In a blender, add in fresh coriander, garlic (2-3 petals), lemon juice and salt to form a green color paste.tri-color

Method:

  1. Divide Idli batter in two bowls. For saffron color, add tomato chutney in the batter with little red chilli powder. For green colour, add coriander chutney in the idli batter.
  2. Pour the mixture in a Idli maker and wait for it to steam for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove them and your colorful idlis are ready to be served!tri-color Idli
